ST KILDER - AUSTRALIA
Last stop of the trip and I was back where I started but this time I was out the city center in the suburb of St Kilda. The accommodation was very futuristic and included a fish tank directly under your feet in the reception area.
I wanted to make sure that I did a bit more than see just the inside of backpackers bars (or the casino for that matter). I got talking to a girl from Carlisle who was also in the same frame of mind.
The first full day there we went to an observation tower picking a great clear day to see from the top. We also went round an amusement park which looked like something from back home.
We did of course see some of the nightlife and St Kilder had lots of it. Australia is great for live bands and we even had one play in our hostel.
The number one highlight a couple of days before I left was the great ocean road. Seen wild Kangaroos as well as Koalas (high up in trees in the direction of bright sunlight so pictures didn't turn out well !!!!) and an Echidna (which ran off before I could get my camera out !!!!!).
It was a long minibus ride to the 12 Apostles but well worth the view. On the way it was mile after mile of beaches that were completely.
That was it !!!!! Australia was finished and I was on my way home. The last days were spent listening to people who were staying over there for christmas and new year. I had a great time but when I look back I think I could of seen a little bit more of the country instead of the inside of bars.
Fortunately I learned a lot about backpacking from this trip and had the chance to go away again. It was less than 17 months later that I went to south east asia.
The flight back home and landing back in England when it was only 2 degrees C was awful !!!!!
