The 2 islands were my last stops in Thailand with the exception of returning to Hua Hin for the final week.
I seen little point in stopping at Ko Tao as it is a divers place so the first stop was Ko Pha Ngan on Had Rin beach. That area is famous for the full moon partys. I never looked at the dates because it was not something I had thought about doing.
I obviously arrived midway between these partys because the place had an empty feel about it. In a bar at night there were just a handful of people watching DVDs. Most of the time it rained and there were also lengthy powercuts. I did need a break from the none stop madness of Hua Hin but on the other hand I was not too keen on this place so after a couple of nights I got on the ferry and headed to Ko Samui.
The first night I was there I went out on the town with a couple of lads from Ireland. Connect 4 is the big bar game in Thailand which also happened to be the game I could beat everyone at by the age of 6!!!!!
Chawang beach was so noisy that I hardly got any sleep go I had to move slightly out of town. England got knocked out the world cup which put a big downer on my time there. The following morning while sleeping the accommodation owners woke me up wanting to clean the drains. They could have at least told me the day before.....
Before heading back to Hua Hin I had a couple of days down at Lamai beach which was far less "in your face". There was an English person who owned a bar next to where I was staying called "Toe Knees" I spent a lot of time talking to him and hearing the pros and cons of running a bar in Thailand.
On his bar was a bottle of some spirit from Cambodia with 2 cobras inside. They go far beyond the worm in the Tequila!!!!!!
I got the bus and boat to Hua Hin and went home after that. It had been a great 3 months backpacking. I didn't go out my country for 27 months. But when I did I was gone for over a year!!!!!
