If we wanted to go anywhere we were at the mercy of the hostel owners who were the only ones with transport. They took us shopping, the coast and once took us around the coast where we climbed a big hill and got some great pictures.
Apart from at night when everyone sat round the fire it was just awful. There was nowhere good to go walking because it was all flat farmland but we would go anyway just to kill time.
The one memorable event of this time was when one of the girls hired a car and 3 of us went to the northernmost tip of mainland New Zealand. We also climbed some massive sand dunes and my legs were aching for days after......
The day after we went on this trip we got hit by yet another delay for the work we were promised. Two couples left and headed back home. The hostel offered us free accommodation in exchange for doing a couple of hours work a day.
The remaining group were split between leaving the hostel and going camping up the coast for a week or staying at the hostel and doing the work. Myself and 2 others stayed which the others thought were crazy at the time but within 2 days after they left we were given the bombshell that the work was being put back another 2 weeks.
It was then I chosen to do my side trip to Samoa for 2 weeks. On flying back to Auckland I phoned up the hostel only to be told there was still no start date for work. I spent about 5 uneventful days in Auckland before getting the first cheap flight back to South East Asia.
New Zealand was the biggest let down of the whole trip, overall it was a total waste of time and money and I hope never to set foot in that country again!!!!!!!!!!
