After a few more arguments we headed south to a town called Zakopane close to the border arriving about an hour before it got dark. There was something I liked about the place the minute I got there, it seemed lively and the kind of town where you could have a good time.
We all started drinking the local vodka until they ran out of it, the stuff there was so good it only required a splash of lemonade to take the sharp taste away. Then we went out round the town, got talking to a few other travelers and had the best night out of the trip so far.
The following day we met a middle aged bloke who spoke very good English which was unusual for Poland at the time. He recommended a local eating place nearby and asked us to join him, everyone except myself went as I was not hungry at the time. It turned out to be a con, the man owed the place money and thought that turning up with a load of young lads would somehow help him out.....it didn't!!!
That night I was ready to go out again but only Jamie Harrington out of the other 7 wanted to go which I was not happy with. We ended up a some local nightspot and had a great time, Jamie was a bit of a sight on the dance floor to say the least. Didn't get back until the early hours, the following day we got up early and crossed the border into Slovakia.
We didn't actually stay there but continued on towards Budapest. On the way we had a wait for another train, while waiting we had a walk round the grim looking town and saw a very out of place looking shiny new Macdonalds in the middle of it. The towns in that part of the world looked awful but the countryside was very scenic.
