CAIRNS - AUSTRALIA
After the calm of Tasmania it was a long flight to the hot, humid and crazy town of Cairns. The hostel I stayed in was called the Asylum which being a crazy party place was about the right name for it.
Walking around on the first day I first noticed a group of drunken looking Indigenous Australians who were pestering tourists for money. I soon heard the stories and learned about the problems these people have in the city's.
Like in Melbourne I seen little of the town itself as my time there quickly turned into one big non stop party.
One of the big activities in that part of the world was scuba diving. and having zero interest in any activity involving water meant I was not involved in lots of bar conversations. Prior to going there I would struggle to name 5 people from my whole life who was into that and now it was the number one topic of conversation in the hostel. So I did feel a bit lost sometimes.
I hung on for a few days longer than I intended because of what they call "mad monday" which is a bar crawl that ends up in the woolshed. It was a fairly good night but after that I was ready to move on.
I got a bus ticket to Brisbane which I could jump on and off as much as I wanted as long as I got to the final destination in 3 months. Next stop Townsville...................
