TOWNSVILLE & MAGNETIC ISLAND - AUSTRALIA

After the madness of Cairns it was a bit of a step down going to Townsville. The accommodation was good but there seemed to be something missing about the whole place.

It was social and we had a BBQ on the first night I was there. At this point I started to notice that some nationalities travel far more than others. English, Irish, Germans and Canadians seem to be the top 4 you meet out there. I was sharing an 8 bed dorm room with 7 Germans.

The first full day I attempted to climb some nearby big hill but was quickly overcome by the heat. After spending the evening hearing some rich kid whos mum and dad had obviously paid for his trip it was time to move on.

Magnetic island was the next stop, the location was nice but the accommodation was like a prison not just with the look of the rooms but the lengthy list of rules and regulations you had to follow.

Went for a long walk round the island but stayed well on the roads after seeing several warning signs about death adders. Dad had already sent me the warning e-mails the minute he found out I was there.

The night there were plenty of people about but everyone seemed to be moving on the next day so the second night I was more or less on my own. It was time to move on again Townsville and Magnetic were probably my 2 least favourite places on that trip...........
