PHUKET - THAILAND

I didn't know until I got there that the accommodation I booked at Phuket town was the same place I stopped at 2 years before. Last time the place was empty, this time full of other travelers to talk to. A big group of us went out at night, tried Thai Green Curry pizza and it was the best ever!!!!!

As I already knew there was little to do in the town itself but I did manage to find an observation point to walk up to the following day. Apart from that gap in the weather it rained most of the time so I stayed in the hostel watching DVDs with the other travelers.

Monday morning I headed down to Kata beach and had a good look round. Only stayed there one night, spent the evening in a bar with a couple of lads from Middlesborough. They made the mistake of booking their trip through a travel agent and spent a small fortune on high class hotels, first class flights etc.

The reason I moved down the road was because I discovered a proper backpackers hostel (a rare thing in Thailand) and the chance to meet other travelers a lot more. It was a great choice as I quickly met a good group of people (all from the UK except one) and we all ended up going out on the town for the evening. Showed off my connect 4 skills by beating everyone I played in the bars....

2 of us wanted to go to a national park but there didn't seem to be any transport going there so we had to scratch that idea. At night was a re-run of the previous night and we were also joined by an Australian. Got some beers and had a bit of a party on the beach at 3am.

The final day before I moved to Patong beach a few more people arrived and we had another big night at Patong beach of all places, ended up in a nightclub and had a good night.

I arrived the next day and went to a small Irish bar opposite where I had stopped the previous time. The minute I walked in the couple remembered me from last time which was a bit scary. That was the 3rd time in Thailand that I had been remembered from my previous visit.
Looking back I don't know why I left a social hostel to go to somewhere I had been for over a week on my previous visit. It was an uneventful couple of days, I had one last night in Phuket town before getting the plane to Penang.
