The second side trip I took from Hanoi was to Halong Bay a few hours bus ride away. A large group of us got onto the boat where we would be staying overnight and headed off.........

The area was very scenic with the old boats between the limestone cliffs. It looked very similar to Krabi in Thailand.
The first stop was at a cave which was very hot inside. For me caves are full of dripping water, moss, have a few bats sleeping at the top and are dark places. This one was pure white as if it had been scrubbed down with bleach and full of coloured lighting. I even checked the walls to make sure they were real.
Water activities are well off my list so while the others went Kayaking I discussed the ethics of eating dog with one of the locals. About an hour later 3 of the group had to pay up for one sunken Kayak and 3 snapped paddles between them which I thought was a bit suspect.

We all got back on the boat and had a bit of a party. There was a large group of Irish lads who had plenty of alcohol with them.....this went on until the early hours.
The following morning a few of us split from the group and headed back to Hanoi. I didn't do the longer trip as it was all water activities the following day..............
