We got out of the train at Prague and was quickly found by a man who owned a hotel. The 8 of us all followed him, the place was good and cheap and at the time I thought it was great. It was not until the trip was over that I discovered we had made a big mistake following that person.
After walking round the city we went to the shop and stocked up on alcohol drinking it in our hotel before heading out. Some of the lads were drinking loads of deadly strong absinthe before we had even hit the bar. We went out and started walking, half an hour later the only place we found was a quiet bar with less than 20 people. After some debate we went in and started drinking, I stuck to beer but some of the others particularly Lee were drinking more absinthe.
Within half an hour a beer glass got smashed on the floor which the bar owner accepted as an accident. Soon after another one got broken and the owner was not happy. Less than a minute later another glass went flying across the bar and the owner jumped over and punched Lee in the stomach. A bit of an argument followed with us all being asked to leave. After stopping for food at Macdonald's we somehow got split up and I ended up with Lee who was so out of it he didn't have a clue where he was and what he was doing. We got lost and ended up in a right mess. Nobody understood English so we couldn't get directions, we were lost all through the night.
In his drunken state Lee went into a shop and got another bottle of Absinthe but thankfully dropped it on the floor breaking it. By the time I found out where we were it was getting light. I spent the rest of the day asleep in the hotel. Sunday night was fairly uneventful, we just went out for something to eat and that was it. Lee never drank absinthe again after that night!!!!!
The following day we got the bus to the border with Poland, we stopped for a few beers at some outdoor bar just before we crossed over. Talking to a small group of people Jae showed off his guitar skills while another of the lads got them stoned. The beer was 28 pence a pint compared to about one pound eighty a pint back home.
We walked across the border getting my first passport stamp. With no local currency we had to sleep rough for the second time in 5 days. This time was in a field opposite a row of houses, a few of the locals seen us but didn't seem to bother. It didn't rain and I got probably the best nights sleep of the whole trip.
Overall however by this point I was not happy with the way things were going, I was a third of the way into my holiday and it was not the sort of thing I wanted to be doing. Sleeping rough in Poland might have been a story to tell years later but at the time I hated it.
Next day we headed off to Krakow.........
