BAKO NATIONAL PARK - MALAYSIA

While in Kuching I met a group of 3 who were going to Bako national park and stopping over night. 2 were French and the other had the most unusual genetic mix I had ever known. He was half Swedish and half Iranian........

To get to the park itself involved a lengthy boat trip which gave a good insight into how the locals lived. After getting to the accommodation we went out to explore.

We done one of the short walks to the beach, it was my first trek into a proper rainforest. Seen lots of wildlife but it was very hot and humid.

On the way back we got hit by a massive rainstorm that went on for several hours, I only had one other change of clothes as the rest of my things were back in the hostel in Kuching.

The following morning the Swede who was a bit crazy woke us all up at 5am to go on a big trek. It was still dark when we set off into the forest. I thought he was mad at the time but I did thank him later as it was very hot by 10am. I still drank about 4 litres of water!!!

We climbed several big hills and seen some strange scenery. At one point the path was pure white sand. The thing that got me the most was the noise of the insects that never stopped.

On one hand I wanted to see the good wildlife like the monkeys but on the other I wanted to avoid things like snakes. The crazy Swede was actually sticking his head under rocks look for them.

To be honest we were unlikely to see them as they tend to hide when they hear the footsteps of people. When we got back we compaired pictures with others and spoke to a a pro photographer.

After that it was back to Kuching for a well deserved rest......
